Senate Speaker Calls for Stronger Parliamentary Role in Global Crises

Rome:Senate Speaker Faisal Al-Fayez has urged parliaments globally to take an active role in addressing contemporary global crises. He emphasized that these challenges require robust parliamentary actions to protect citizens and build a stable future.

According to Jordan News Agency, Al-Fayez spoke at the International Conference of Speakers of Parliaments in Rome, which focused on the role of parliaments in responding to modern crises. The conference saw participation from various parliamentary leaders and international organizations.

Al-Fayez highlighted that the complexities of global conflicts necessitate cooperation beyond government efforts, involving civil society and international bodies with parliaments playing a central role. He stressed that no crisis is the sole concern of one nation, citing climate issues, economic hardships, conflicts, and cybersecurity threats as examples.

He also relayed messages from King Abdullah II's address to the United Nations General Assembly, which called for international peace, stability, and respect for international law. The King urged moving from crisis management to addressing root causes and taking practical measures to ensure human rights and dignity.

Al-Fayez criticized the ongoing Israeli actions against Palestinians, questioning the international community's accountability mechanisms. He detailed the King's concerns about the demolition of Palestinian homes and other violations, emphasizing the need for effective international response.

He pointed out that parliaments face unprecedented pressures from rapid global changes, requiring them to adapt to technological, social, and environmental challenges. Al-Fayez called for greater transparency and international cooperation to tackle these issues.

In conclusion, Al-Fayez advocated for stronger parliamentary partnerships and proactive measures to resolve crises, emphasizing the importance of legislation and oversight in protecting individual rights and promoting global peace and development.
