Heavy Rain and Thunderstorms Expected to Hit Jordan

Amman:Heavy downpours and thunderstorms are anticipated to intensify across eastern, central, and southern Jordan on Sunday afternoon, with warnings of flash floods in valleys and low-lying areas, particularly in the southern and eastern regions, including Aqaba.

According to Jordan News Agency, the Jordan Meteorological Department has indicated that unstable weather conditions will persist throughout the day. Scattered showers are expected in the southern and eastern regions, including Aqaba, accompanied by occasional thunder and lightning.

Rainfall is predicted to intensify during the afternoon, potentially bringing heavy downpours to parts of the east, center, and south. Thunderstorms may produce hail, further increasing the risk of flash floods in vulnerable areas.

Isolated showers might occur in northern regions, while southeasterly winds are expected to strengthen at intervals. These winds could cause dust to stir across the Badia, reducing visibility.

The department has issued warnings against approaching flood-prone valleys and areas where rainwater accumulates, particularly in eastern and southern Jordan, including Aqaba. Additional alerts have been issued for thunderstorms, hail, and reduced visibility due to dust, especially along desert roads. Fog might also develop over high mountain areas at night, and wet roads could become slippery.

Temperature forecasts for Sunday indicate highs of 31 degrees Celsius in East Amman and across the plains, and 29 C in West Amman. Temperatures are expected to reach 27 C in the northern highlands, 26 C in the Sharah highlands, and 33 C in the Badia. The northern Jordan Valley is expected to see 37 C, the southern Jordan Valley 36 C, the Dead Sea 34 C, and Aqaba 32 C.

Unsettled weather conditions are likely to continue on Monday, with scattered showers forecast for eastern and southeastern Jordan. Some rainfall might be heavy, with thunder, lightning, and hail.

Winds are expected to remain southeasterly and occasionally active before shifting to northwesterly in the evening. Weather conditions are expected to stabilize on Tuesday and Wednesday, bringing moderate autumn weather across most regions, with clouds at various altitudes and moderate northwesterly winds.
