Malfunction at Salt Hospital Causes Structural Damage

Salt:A technical malfunction in a medical waste sterilization unit at Al-Hussein/Salt New Hospital led to limited structural damage on Tuesday morning, although no injuries have been reported, according to the Ministry of Health.

According to Jordan News Agency, the incident took place on the B6 level of the hospital. The malfunction occurred while the sterilizer was operating, resulting in sections of a suspended ceiling and an adjacent wall collapsing.

Initial inspections revealed that the issue stemmed from a malfunction in the sterilization unit's water temperature regulator. This malfunction caused an increase in heat and pressure inside the device, leading to the mechanical incident.

In response, a team consisting of the ministry's secretary-general, the Services Administration, and the Biomedical Engineering Directorate was dispatched to the hospital to oversee the situation and evaluate the measures taken. The company responsible for the equipment's operation and maintenance was also present at the scene.

The Ministry of Health confirmed that the incident did not compromise the safety of patients or hospital staff, nor did it disrupt healthcare services, as the damage was confined to property only.
