Baku:Government Communication Ministry Secretary General Zaid Nawaiseh emphasized the crucial role of media in fostering dialogue among cultures, particularly in diverse societies, during a forum in Baku.
According to Jordan News Agency, Nawaiseh addressed the first Media Forum of the Conference on Interaction and Confidence Building Measures in Asia (CICA), underscoring the challenges media faces in the digital age. These challenges include the proliferation of hate speech, misinformation, and the rapid development of technologies like artificial intelligence and deepfake.
Nawaiseh spoke during a session titled "The Role of Media in Promoting Social Cohesion and Intercultural Dialogue," where he highlighted the need for professional media support and quick access to reliable data to ensure accurate content creation. He noted the public's growing demand for fast information access and the resulting pressure on media to balance speed with accuracy.
He emphasized the importance of verifying sources and context, especially regarding sensitive matters, and noted that combating misinformation and hate speech should involve society's critical engagement with information. Nawaiseh shared Jordan's efforts in media literacy, advocating it as a core skill for verifying information responsibly.
Additionally, Nawaiseh stressed the responsible use of artificial intelligence in media, advocating for transparency about its application. He also called for media adaptability to changing information consumption patterns and the importance of timely, accurate responses from media and official spokespersons to build trust and effectively communicate with all societal segments.
