Amman:Dead Sea: The Jordan Meteorological Department (JMD) has installed a new automated weather station at the Dead Sea Corniche. This installation is part of an effort to modernize and expand the Kingdom's national observation network with real-time monitoring capabilities.
According to Jordan News Agency, the new weather station is directly connected to the JMD's central weather data system. This connection allows for continuous transmission of weather readings, providing forecasters with current information about weather changes in the Dead Sea area.
JMD Director Raed Al Khattab emphasized that the additional data from this station will enhance forecasting operations, improving the accuracy of weather information and meteorological products. The observations collected will also be archived in the National Climate Data Bank, contributing to long-term climate studies and analysis.
The installation at the Dead Sea is part of a broader initiative to upgrade monitoring equipment and extend coverage to geographically, economically, and touristically important areas. The JMD aims to close gaps in geographical coverage and incorporate advanced meteorological technologies into the country's observation system.
Additional priority locations for new weather stations have been identified, with Ruwaished in the eastern part of the northeastern Badia slated to receive an automated station next. This will further expand monitoring coverage across the Kingdom's eastern regions.
Al Khattab stated that the network upgrade will continue, aiming to strengthen the JMD's observation, forecasting, and early-warning capabilities, thereby improving the quality and accuracy of weather services for the public and various sectors.
