Amman:The Senate Women's Committee, chaired by Senator Khawla Armouti, convened with UN Women Jordan representatives to discuss enhancing cooperation on women's empowerment and gender equality initiatives.
According to Jordan News Agency, the meeting involved discussions with UN Women Jordan Country Representative Nicolas Burniat, Deputy Representative Manal Benkirane, and Political Empowerment Programme Analyst Raya Mashaqbah. The focus was on strengthening the partnership to support Jordan's efforts in advancing political, economic, and administrative modernization.
The discussions reviewed UN Women Jordan's priorities for 2023-2027, which include gender-responsive governance, women's economic empowerment, social protection, and resilience. The organization also supports legislation, budgeting, data collection, and monitoring mechanisms.
Burniat emphasized the meeting's significance as a platform to exchange expertise and establish an effective partnership aligned with Jordan's modernization objectives. UN Women's cooperation with national partners, such as the Ministerial Committee for Women's Empowerment, was also highlighted.
Discussions included boosting women's economic participation, protecting women in the labor market, and strengthening their roles in emerging sectors like the green economy. Efforts to attract investment aimed at creating more employment opportunities for women were also discussed, including a pilot program to promote economic participation and reduce domestic violence.
Senators reiterated Jordan's dedication to advancing women's empowerment under King Abdullah II's leadership, emphasizing the importance of ongoing cooperation to enhance women's roles across various sectors.
