Aqaba:Aqaba The Ministry of Youth is spearheading a significant project to develop and rehabilitate Aqaba Youth City, aiming to enhance its sports and youth facilities to better host tournaments, training camps, and sporting activities.
According to Jordan News Agency, the project is a part of the ministry's broader efforts to improve sports and youth infrastructure across the country, leveraging Aqaba's strategic location and favorable climate for year-round sports activities. The project, which is divided into two phases, has a total estimated cost of approximately JD4 million.
The first phase, currently underway, focuses on developing Aqaba's stadium, the only grass football pitch in the governorate. This phase includes the reconstruction and rehabilitation of stands, installation of a 700 square meter metal canopy, and creation of facilities for VIPs, journalists, and spectators. Additional features include a services building, dedicated entrances, parking for 250 vehicles, and necessary infrastructure work. This phase is expected to be completed by early 2027, with work about halfway finished.
The second phase will add stands for 2,500 spectators, service buildings, and lighting towers, adhering to FIFA and Jordan Football Association standards. It will also feature a water well, a new entrance, and upgraded facilities for players and officials.
Adjacent to Aqaba Youth City, the ministry plans to build additional sports facilities, including a five-a-side football pitch, padel and basketball courts, and a multi-purpose sports hall. The development also includes plans to rehabilitate the Aqaba Youth Hostel to support training camps and youth programs.
The project, supported by Royal initiatives and the Aqaba Governorate Council, seeks to create an integrated sports system that attracts national and international sports teams, contributing to the local economy and tourism.
