Amman:Senate President Faisal Fayez welcomed the United Kingdom's decision to ban imports of goods produced in Israeli settlements in the occupied Palestinian territories and to introduce restrictions on services linked to settlement activities. He praised the UK's reaffirmation of its commitment to the two-state solution.
According to Jordan News Agency, Fayez described the measures as consistent with international law and contributing to holding entities involved in settlement activities accountable. He called for further international measures to address Israeli policies in the occupied Palestinian territories, emphasizing that attention to the situation in Gaza should also extend to the West Bank.
These remarks were made on Monday during a meeting chaired by Fayez between the Senate's Committee on Arab and International Affairs and Expatriates and a British parliamentary delegation from the Conservative Party, in cooperation with the party's Middle East Council. The meeting focused on Jordanian-British relations and regional developments.
Fayez underscored the longstanding relationship between Jordan and the UK and expressed Jordan's interest in expanding cooperation in economic, investment, political, and parliamentary fields. He also emphasized the importance of maintaining coordination on issues of mutual interest.
The British delegation expressed appreciation for Jordan's efforts in supporting regional peace and stability. They highlighted His Majesty King Abdullah II's efforts in addressing regional and international challenges and promoting dialogue, coexistence, and peace. The delegation also acknowledged the King's custodianship of Islamic and Christian holy sites in Jerusalem and his efforts to preserve their status.
Members of the delegation emphasized the importance of parliamentary exchanges in strengthening communication, sharing expertise and perspectives, and advancing parliamentary diplomacy between the two countries.
