Amman:Jordan is leveraging China's expertise in clean technology and industrial capabilities to enhance its national energy sector, according to Xinhua News Agency.
According to Jordan News Agency, following King Abdullah II's recent visit to China, Energy Minister Saleh Kharabsheh highlighted the impact of Chinese innovation on Jordan's energy transition. A significant outcome of the visit was the signing of a memorandum of understanding with China's National Energy Administration, which Kharabsheh described as pivotal in turning cooperation into substantial industrial-scale projects.
The agreement focuses on joint ventures aimed at modernizing the electricity grid, producing green hydrogen and ammonia, implementing grid-scale battery storage, and manufacturing clean-tech components locally. Kharabsheh emphasized that Jordanian-Chinese collaboration extends beyond merely fulfilling Jordan's energy requirements. The partnership is seen as a driver of economic growth, emerging industries, and Jordan's goal to become a regional green energy hub. These initiatives are part of Jordan's Energy Sector Strategy, which includes integrating artificial intelligence into power distribution, increasing renewable energy's share in the national energy mix, and deploying energy storage technologies to manage grid variability.
The collaboration also seeks to boost energy efficiency in sectors such as heavy water use, transport, and manufacturing. By attracting Chinese investments and facilitating technology transfer, Jordan aims to strengthen its domestic supply chains, create specialized jobs, and enhance its economic competitiveness. Kharabsheh commended Chinese companies already operating in Jordan for their technical contributions in expanding the country's generation capacity.
