Jordan Seeks German Investment in Industrial Sectors

Munich:Jordan has actively promoted investment opportunities within its industrial cities to German businesses, aiming to forge new partnerships in sectors such as technology, pharmaceuticals, food production, engineering, and energy-related industries. This initiative comes ahead of the Jordan-EU Investment Conference.

According to Jordan News Agency, Obeid Yassin, Chairman of the Jordan Industrial Estates Company (JIEC), outlined these opportunities during recent business and investment meetings held in Munich. A Jordanian delegation engaged with German officials and private-sector representatives as part of these efforts.

The meetings are part of a broader strategy by the Jordanian government to expand investment partnerships and draw German participation in the upcoming Jordan-EU Investment Conference, scheduled to take place in Jordan in October.

The delegation included several high-ranking officials Minister of Transport and Labor Nidal Qatamin, Minister of Energy and Mineral Resources Saleh Kharabsheh, Minister of Investment Tareq Abu Ghazaleh, Jordan's Ambassador to Germany Fayez Khoury, along with representatives from the Jordanian private sector.

Yassin emphasized that Jordan's industrial cities offer European companies a strategic base to access Jordanian and regional markets. These cities are equipped with developed infrastructure, serviced industrial sites, specialized services, and a variety of investment incentives.

JIEC is particularly interested in attracting value-added German investments in areas such as technology, food processing, pharmaceuticals, engineering, and energy-related industries. Such collaborations are expected to bolster the competitiveness of Jordanian manufacturing, enhance export opportunities, and facilitate the transfer of technology and expertise.

Yassin highlighted the Zarqa Industrial Estate, Jordan's newest industrial city, as a prime opportunity for European investors. He encouraged German companies to consider projects that JIEC will present at the Jordan-EU conference. Investment in this estate could enhance exports, enable technology transfer, and create skilled jobs for Jordanians.

During discussions with a German company, plans to upgrade Zarqa Industrial Estate's digital infrastructure were also addressed. The proposed upgrade, based on a preliminary concept, could reduce energy consumption by up to 50 percent, supported by a grant from a German government program.

JIEC stated that the project would contribute to developing smart industrial infrastructure and advancing sustainable digital transformation at the Zarqa estate.

The visit to Munich included participation in the Munich Business and Technology Forum and a Jordanian-German investment roundtable at Bavaria's Ministry of Economic Affairs. Discussions with German officials and business representatives focused on investment and partnership opportunities in transport, energy, manufacturing, technology, and logistics, as well as the potential for joint projects.

Yassin also noted government efforts, spearheaded by the Ministry of Investment and other relevant ministries, to strengthen Jordan's investment environment and promote opportunities across its industrial cities.
