Aqaba: The Jordan Phosphate Mines Company (JPMC) reported a minor ammonia gas leak at its industrial complex in Aqaba. The incident occurred during maintenance work to remove an old ammonia compressor from a client firm, with the company clarifying that the leak did not originate from any of the complex's main storage tanks.
According to Jordan News Agency, the company stated that its on-site personnel swiftly contained the leak and managed the situation with professionalism. The incident led to minor injuries for 11 workers, who received necessary medical treatment. While most of the injured workers have been discharged, a few remain under medical observation as a precaution.
JPMC expressed appreciation for the rapid response from the Civil Defense Directorate (CDD) teams, the Environment Commission at the Aqaba Special Economic Zone Authority (ASEZA), local authorities in the Aqaba Governorate, and the industrial complex's staff. The collaboration among these entities was noted for its promptness and responsible coordination.
The company reiterated its dedication to upholding occupational safety standards and implementing public safety measures to ensure a secure working environment across its operations.
