Aqaba Marine Reserve Earns UNESCO World Heritage Status, Celebrated by Local Company

Amman: Aqaba Marine Services Company has welcomed the historic inscription of the Aqaba Marine Reserve on the UNESCO World Heritage List, describing the achievement as a landmark national milestone that reinforces Aqaba's strategic global standing and strengthens the competitiveness and sustainability of Jordan's maritime sector.

According to Jordan News Agency, the company's General Manager, Frederik Rutgers, said the prestigious international recognition marks a significant turning point, placing all sectors operating in the Gulf of Aqaba under new responsibilities and commitments. He noted that operating within waters recognized as a World Heritage Site adds substantial value to the company and its workforce while demonstrating that efficient maritime transport can successfully coexist with the sustainable management of natural resources.

Rutgers said the reserve's designation as a World Heritage Site aligns closely with the company's strategic vision, which places marine environmental protection at the core of its priorities. He added that the achievement serves as a strong incentive to continue pursuing excellence and underscores the company's responsibility to operate in a marine environment of outstanding global significance.

He stressed that Aqaba Marine Services Company remains fully committed to conducting its daily operations including ship towage, pilotage, and a range of marine services in accordance with the highest international environmental standards. The company, he said, adopts safe and environmentally responsible maritime practices that ensure the smooth flow of trade and supply chains while safeguarding the Gulf of Aqaba's sensitive ecosystems and unique coral reefs.

Rutgers reaffirmed the company's commitment to working closely with the Aqaba Special Economic Zone Authority and other strategic partners to support Jordan's national vision for advancing the blue economy and ensuring the long-term sustainability of this national achievement, made possible through the Royal vision. He added that the company aims to help maintain Aqaba Port's position as a leading global model for maritime excellence and environmental stewardship.
