Amman: Field inspection cadres at the Jordan Standards and Metrology Organization (JSMO) completed statutory metrological verification for 29,384 legal measuring instruments across commercial and service sectors during the first half of 2026.
According to Jordan News Agency, the technical conformity assessments encompassed 16,606 taximeters, 11,452 fuel dispensing units, and 1,326 commercial scales and heavy-duty platform weighbridges operating nationwide. Field officers also conducted net-quantity controls and pre-packaged product inspections on 3,295 domestic liquefied petroleum gas (LPG) cylinders and 739 pre-packaged commodities to verify fill-level integrity against labeled nominal quantities and applicable technical regulations.
Market surveillance operations utilize preventive and post-market compliance frameworks to eliminate calibration tampering, mitigate transactional measurement errors, and ensure consumer protection. Standardized legal metrology enforces level-playing-field conditions, safeguards compliant market operators against unfair competition, and reinforces trade equity across domestic supply chains.
Non-compliance reports and metrological discrepancies are processed via JSMO's centralized intake hotline (065301243), WhatsApp channel, official web portal, and the national "At Your Service" (Bekhedmatkom) e-government platform. Corrective enforcement measures and legal referrals against non-conforming entities are executed pursuant to the provisions of Standards and Metrology Law No. 22 of 2000.
