Amman: Minister of Water and Irrigation Raed Abu Saud and Spanish Ambassador Jos© Luis Pardo Cuerdo signed a £765,000 financing agreement for consultancy services supporting the digital transformation of Jordan's water sector, financed by Spain's loan guarantee institution.
According to Jordan News Agency, the project will conduct a comprehensive assessment of Jordan's water system and operational systems in several governorates and propose integrated smart-water solutions, Abu Saud said. Consultancy services will cover digital transformation, sustainability, energy management, governance, change management, cybersecurity, cyber-risk mitigation, and the preparedness of operational technology systems. The project will also develop a clear roadmap for implementing digital transformation across the water sector.
Abu Saud highlighted that the initiative aligns with government efforts to digitalize public services, improve user experience, and implement the Economic Modernization Vision and the water sector plan. The project will provide real-time operational data across the water system, expand remote monitoring and control of water sources and networks, and introduce international expertise and technologies in water-resource management.
It is also expected to enhance network operations, staff and resource management, system monitoring, customer services, data and reporting, energy management, and cybersecurity. The project aims to reduce water losses, operational disruptions, and digital risks. Abu Saud commended the European Union and Spanish government for supporting Jordan's water sector, particularly efforts to strengthen integrated water-resource management and introduce modern technologies to improve water-supply efficiency and national water security.
Pardo Cuerdo said the agreement reflected the strength of Jordanian-Spanish cooperation and described digital transformation as essential to improving water-resource management and addressing water scarcity. He stated that Spain was committed to sharing its expertise in digitalization and water management and would continue supporting projects that strengthen water security and improve public services in Jordan.
