Jordan Customs and Private Sector Collaborate to Enhance Economic Competitiveness

Irbid: The Jordan Customs Department and representatives from the private sector convened at the Irbid Chamber of Commerce to discuss strategies for strengthening their strategic partnership, facilitating trade, and enhancing the competitiveness of Jordan's national economy. This meeting took place as part of the ongoing efforts by the department to bolster institutional communication and foster effective partnerships with the private sector.

According to Jordan News Agency, the Partnership Council meeting was attended by prominent figures including Jordan Chamber of Commerce President Khalil Haj Tawfiq, Director General of Jordan Customs Brig. Gen. Ahmad Akalik, and Irbid Chamber of Commerce President Mohammad Shouha. Also present were representatives from chambers of commerce and industry, the Jordan Free Zones Investors Commission, and the Syndicate of Owners of Clearance and Cargo Transport Companies, among others.

Mohammad Shouha emphasized the significance of continued cooperation and coordination between Jordan Customs and the private sector. This collaboration is deemed crucial for overcoming challenges and supporting trade and investment in Jordan. The discussions during the meeting centered around several key priorities for the business community. These included strengthening strategic partnerships, enhancing national economic competitiveness, advancing digital transformation and innovation in customs operations, improving risk management and compliance systems, expanding the Authorized Economic Operator (AEO) Program, and promoting green trade and sustainability.

The Customs Department also showcased its institutional culture framework, which is considered a vital enabler of organizational excellence and improved service delivery. This framework is rooted in principles such as integrity, transparency, teamwork, innovation, customer focus, and partnership with the private sector. The goal is to enhance operational efficiency, expedite customs procedures, drive continuous improvement, and provide higher-quality customs services that support the business environment and the national economy.

Private sector representatives lauded the Customs Department for its facilitation measures, efficient service delivery, and responsiveness to sectoral needs. They emphasized the importance of continuing these Partnership Council meetings to strengthen dialogue, address challenges, improve services and procedures, and align with international best practices. This collaboration is seen as essential for supporting Jordan's national economy and boosting its competitiveness.
