Amman: The Anti-Narcotics Department foiled five major drug smuggling and trafficking operations in recent days, resulting in the arrest of nine suspects and the seizure of large quantities of narcotics, the Public Security Directorate (PSD) stated on Tuesday.
According to Jordan News Agency, in the first case, authorities intercepted an Arab national at Queen Alia International Airport after receiving intelligence that he intended to smuggle cocaine into the Kingdom. Following weeks of investigation and coordination with Jordan Customs and other security agencies, officers arrested the suspect upon arrival and discovered six liters of liquid cocaine concealed inside containers of various products in his luggage.
In a separate operation at the Jaber border crossing, security personnel seized 150,000 narcotic pills hidden inside a spare tire of a cargo vehicle. Investigations led to the identification and arrest of three individuals inside the Kingdom who were allegedly preparing to receive the shipment.
In Mafraq Governorate, authorities arrested a wanted suspect classified as dangerous and armed, who was linked to regional drug smuggling networks and faced multiple outstanding warrants. A quantity of narcotic pills was seized during the raid.
In downtown Amman, officers arrested a suspect who was cultivating marijuana seedlings inside his home, where 2,300 seedlings were seized. In Balqa, two alleged drug traffickers were arrested and 9,000 narcotic pills confiscated during an operation targeting narcotics distribution activities.
The PSD said that investigations into the cases are continuing and that all suspects have been referred to the relevant judicial authorities.
