Princess Basma Hails Beit al-Liqa as Beacon of Inclusion, Human Dignity

Madaba: Her Royal Highness Princess Basma bint Talal on Thursday praised the services provided by the Beit al-Liqa Center in Madaba for persons with disabilities, describing its humanitarian mission as a model of volunteer and charitable work in the Kingdom.

According to Jordan News Agency, Princess Basma, while patronizing the center's 20th anniversary celebration, emphasized that Beit al-Liqa exemplifies values of giving, solidarity, and belief in human potential through its comprehensive educational, rehabilitation, and vocational training programs. She highlighted the empowerment of persons with disabilities as a shared national and societal responsibility, which necessitates sustained efforts to build a more inclusive and equitable society. True inclusion, she noted, is rooted in recognizing human capabilities and enabling every individual to contribute to community development.

Princess Basma also underscored the center's role in fostering a culture of dialogue, respect, and social inclusion, reinforcing Jordan's values of coexistence and mutual respect. She expressed gratitude to the center's management, staff, and volunteers for their dedication in maintaining the institution as a model of humanitarian service.

Archbishop Iyad Twal, the Latin Patriarchal Vicar in Jordan, remarked that the center represents a form of success based not on numbers, but on values, self-confidence, and the preservation of human dignity. He highlighted Beit al-Liqa's mission as a deep humanitarian responsibility toward children in need of care, emphasizing that persons with disabilities exemplify determination and resilience, with human value residing in spirit, perseverance, and hope.

Twal further stated that the 20th anniversary marks the beginning of a renewed phase of commitment to providing hope and creating an environment that respects dignity and inclusion. Beit al-Liqa, established by the Italian Fraternity of Hope (SERMIG) and affiliated with the Latin Patriarchate of Jerusalem, received its license as a day center for inclusive services in 2022. The center offers rehabilitation services to around 275 children with disabilities through a specialized team of professionals, therapists, trainers, and volunteers from Jordan and other countries, promoting intercultural and interfaith dialogue.

Additionally, the center involves families through individual and group programs aimed at reducing stigma, fear, and isolation, contributing to changing societal perceptions of disability as part of human diversity.
