Amman: The Ministry of Energy and Mineral Resources, in partnership with the German Agency for International Cooperation (GIZ), has launched a series of awareness workshops aimed at enhancing energy efficiency among public sector employees. These workshops are part of the National Capacity Building Program in Energy Efficiency and are conducted in coordination with the Ministry of Industry, Trade and Supply, and the German Energy Academy in Jordan.
According to Jordan News Agency, the initiative specifically targets employees of the Ministry of Industry and Trade, with the goal of promoting rational energy consumption and improving efficiency within government buildings. Lina Mubaideen, Director of Energy Efficiency and Climate Change Directorate at the Ministry of Energy, emphasized that these workshops are integral to the ministry's efforts to foster a culture of energy efficiency in Jordan's public sector, aligning with the National Energy Strategy and governmental plans to reduce energy consumption.
Mubaideen highlighted that the National Capacity Building Program aims to instigate positive changes in daily energy consumption behaviors at workplaces, which could lead to sustainable electricity savings and reduced operational costs for public facilities. She called for partnerships with both local and global organizations to support the implementation of specialized training and awareness initiatives.
Assistant Secretary-General of the Ministry of Industry, Yasmin Khraisat, noted that the sessions are designed to increase worker awareness regarding best practices for optimal energy use. She pointed out that improving energy efficiency is a fundamental aspect of the government's strategy to reduce operating expenses and enhance sustainability in the public sector.
Rafael Wiese, Project Manager of the German Energy Academy in Jordan, representing GIZ, stated that GIZ is implementing the program on behalf of the German government to support national efforts in promoting energy efficiency in government institutions. He mentioned that the program has previously involved employees from the Ministries of Labor and Finance and is now extending its activities to the Ministry of Industry through a series of awareness workshops.
Wiese explained that rising energy costs are a growing concern for both public and private sectors, and government buildings present a significant opportunity for tangible energy savings through simple and effective workplace measures. The workshops included interactive sessions that discussed energy efficiency concepts and best practices for public buildings, alongside reviewing behavioral and technical procedures to sustainably reduce energy consumption.
