DoS Reports Steady Progress in 2026 Population Census

Amman: The 2026 General Population and Housing Census's fieldwork phase is proceeding according to schedule and is at an advanced stage of completion, Director General of the Department of Statistics (DoS) Haider Freihat said on Monday.

According to Jordan News Agency, about 1,400 researchers, supervisors, quality control officers, and monitoring staff are currently working in the field. Freihat shared these updates during the periodic meeting of the Census Media Committee, indicating that the completion rate has reached 48 percent for buildings and 45 percent for blocks across the Kingdom. The plan aims to conclude this phase by early July, with the finalization of all blocks, buildings, and households following the field visits.

Freihat discussed the challenges faced by the teams, especially in densely populated and geographically dispersed areas, but noted that work is progressing steadily. He emphasized the significance of the progress made thus far.

He mentioned a "statistical silence period" that will follow the data collection phase, during which coordination with other government bodies will occur. Freihat assured that data confidentiality is upheld under the General Statistics Law, and that the department adheres to stringent technical and technological standards to safeguard information. The data collected is solely for statistical purposes, as stipulated by governing legislation.
