Yarmouk University, German Agency Forge Partnership for Peacebuilding Through Sport

Irbid: Yarmouk University and the German Agency for International Cooperation (GIZ) have entered into a significant collaboration by signing a memorandum of understanding aimed at harnessing the power of sport to foster peacebuilding and enhance social cohesion. This initiative also seeks to support women's economic empowerment within the sports sector.

According to Jordan News Agency, the MoU was signed by Ahmad Bataineh, Dean of the Faculty of Physical Education and Sport Sciences at Yarmouk University, and Lilly von Stackelberg, coordinator of the WoMENA project for GIZ. The agreement focuses on integrating the "Sport for Development" methodology into academic and training programs, which will equip students with conflict-sensitive teaching skills.

The partnership includes organizing workshops and training sessions for both university and public school students. These programs are designed to cultivate positive leadership qualities and encourage nonviolent behavior. Moreover, the MoU facilitates the attainment of accredited sports coaching licenses in collaboration with the Jordan Football Association, thereby enhancing students' career prospects in the sports industry.

Both parties emphasized that this collaboration presents a valuable opportunity to prepare students for the labor market while promoting peace, inclusion, and empowerment through sport.
