Amman: The International Organization for Migration (IOM) in Jordan organized the Justice League Football Tournament in Amman as part of the Europe Day 2026 celebration, highlighting the collaboration between Jordan's justice-sector institutions and the European Union (EU).
According to Jordan News Agency, the tournament featured five teams representing the Judicial Council, the Ministry of Justice, the Public Security Directorate (PSD), the EU, and "Partners for Justice." The latter included players from the IOM, the German Agency for International Cooperation (GIZ), the Spanish Agency for International Development Cooperation (AECID), and the Jordan Bar Association. The event aimed to foster teamwork, institutional cooperation, and justice values while reaffirming a commitment to enhancing access to justice in Jordan.
Refugee referees trained under the LaLiga Zaatari and Azraq Social Project officiated the matches. This initiative, in collaboration with the Association Football Development Program (AFDP) Global, underscored sport's role in promoting social inclusion, skills development, and community engagement. The tournament followed a league format, culminating in a final match initiated by IOM Jordan Chief of Mission Fathima Nusrath Ghazzali.
The competitive final saw the PSD facing off against the Ministry of Justice, with the PSD emerging victorious with a 4-1 scoreline. An awards ceremony followed, where trophies and medals were distributed to the winners and participants. Isidro Garcia, the team leader of the EU-funded Support to Access to Justice in Jordan project, emphasized the initiative's role in celebrating partnerships and a unified commitment to ensuring access to justice.
Garcia remarked that sport unites individuals and promotes values aligning with the justice system, such as cooperation, respect for fair rules, and equality. The tournament served as a platform for institutional partners to engage informally, raising awareness of the importance of ensuring justice access for all.
