New Bylaw Issued to Regulate Care Leavers’ Support and Affairs

Amman: The 2026 Bylaw for Preparation and Aftercare of Shelter Residents and Care Leavers was published in the latest release of the Official Gazette on Wednesday. This new regulation, enacted under Articles 10 and 26 of the Social Development Law No. 4 of 2024, is designed to systematically organize aftercare procedures for beneficiaries of shelters.

According to Jordan News Agency, the bylaw aims to aid the psychological and social rehabilitation of target groups, enabling them to become self-reliant and easing their reintegration into society post-shelter life. The regulation specifically targets individuals aged 16-18 residing in shelters, including orphans, those without family support, and individuals from broken homes, defining them as beneficiaries.

Furthermore, the regulation identifies a care leaver as any person who has reached the age of 18 and was a beneficiary of a shelter. Rehabilitation under this system is described as a comprehensive set of organized and continuous measures provided to beneficiaries, with the goal of fostering self-reliance and societal reintegration.

The provisions of the newly issued bylaw are set to take effect immediately from the date of its publication in the Official Gazette, marking a significant step towards structured support for shelter residents and care leavers.
