Amman: Jordan's Minister of Transport, Nidal Katamine, announced the establishment of a specialized technical committee aimed at expediting transit trade, particularly focusing on routes to Iraq, as part of an effort to bolster Jordan's role as a regional logistics hub.
According to Jordan News Agency, the new committee is tasked with providing operational reports every three days regarding the transit of goods from the Port of Aqaba to their final destinations. This group is also responsible for identifying and addressing any administrative or logistical challenges in real-time.
During a meeting with the Association of Owners of Clearance and Transport Companies, Minister Katamine highlighted the importance of the clearance sector in facilitating trade and supporting Jordan's national economy. He stressed the necessity of coordination among all stakeholders to ensure the seamless flow of goods and to manage the increasing workload at the Port of Aqaba effectively.
The discussions underscored the rising volume of transit activity aimed at the Iraqi market, necessitating enhanced operational efficiency and modernized logistics services. Representatives from the clearance association pointed out the main challenges their operations face, leading the minister to promise government assistance to simplify procedures and improve the business environment for transport companies.
The meeting included senior officials and stakeholders from the Land Transport Regulatory Commission (LTRC) and is part of a wider government initiative to enhance the competitiveness of Jordan's transport sector, leveraging its strategic position to boost international trade.
