Cities and Villages Development Bank Secures £1 Million German Grant for Smart Mobility Project

Amman: The Cities and Villages Development Bank (CVDB) has successfully obtained an international grant of approximately £1 million for its initiative, "Financing Smart Technologies and Digital Solutions for the Transport and Mobility Sector in Jordan."

According to Jordan News Agency, the funding is sourced through the International Climate Initiative (IKI) Small Grants program, backed by the German Federal Government and executed by the German Agency for International Cooperation (GIZ). As part of the project, the bank plans to initiate a national competitive program aimed at distributing sub-grants to municipalities, civil society organizations, and universities. The main goal of the initiative is to develop innovative solutions that support sustainable transport and smart mobility, empowering local institutions to adopt modern technologies that align with future development needs.

Wasim Al-Haddad, Director General of the CVDB, mentioned that securing this grant highlights international confidence in the bank's capacity to lead projects supporting the "green transition" and fostering innovation within local communities. Al-Haddad further noted that through initiatives like this, the bank aims to expand its local and international partnerships, accelerating the shift toward smarter, more sustainable cities. He emphasized that the project would enhance municipalities' ability to address evolving environmental and developmental challenges.
