Amman: Speaker of the Lower House Mazen Qadi met with Australian Ambassador to Jordan Paula Ganly to discuss ways to advance bilateral relations across all fields, particularly parliamentary cooperation. Qadi emphasized the strong ties between the two countries and highlighted the importance of continued cooperation to serve the interests of both peoples and contribute to regional security and stability.
According to Jordan News Agency, Qadi reviewed Jordan's political modernization process, initiated under the directives of His Majesty King Abdullah II, which aims to enhance public participation in decision-making. He expressed gratitude for Australia's support for the two-state solution and its recognition of the State of Palestine.
Qadi also addressed the regional conflict, stating that while Jordan is not a party to it, the country has faced attacks by Iran targeting Jordan and Gulf states, which he condemned. He stressed Jordan's policy of avoiding involvement in conflicts while prioritizing national security. Additionally, Qadi warned against Israel's actions to alter the status quo in Jerusalem and noted the closure of Al-Aqsa Mosque and the prevention of Christian worshippers from praying in Jerusalem's churches.
The Australian ambassador, Paula Ganly, expressed appreciation for Jordan's significant role in promoting regional security and stability under King Abdullah II's leadership. She reaffirmed Australia's commitment to supporting Jordan and praised the high level of trust and respect King Abdullah II commands internationally due to his moderate positions and advocacy for dialogue and regional stability.
