Aqaba Ports Operate at Full Capacity Amid Increased Shipping Traffic

Aqaba: Operations at Aqaba ports are running "efficiently, as vessel traffic is continuing uninterrupted and recording a noticeable increase," according to the Chairman of Aqaba Special Economic Zone Authority (ASEZA), Shadi Majali.

According to Jordan News Agency, Majali highlighted that the operations are aligned with Royal directives and are closely monitored by His Royal Highness Crown Prince Al Hussein bin Abdullah II, ensuring that the ports are ready and maintaining high-efficiency standards. All nine ports in Aqaba are currently operating at "full capacity," with increased instances of vessel dockings and cargo handling volumes. Additionally, there is an available capacity of up to 30 percent more than the usual levels.

To further support trade activity, the Cabinet has approved exemptions on shipments from any additional fees beyond the shipping costs. This initiative is aimed at facilitating the smooth flow of goods. Since the start of the month, 199 vessels, including 86 passenger ships, have docked in Aqaba, with 57 more expected next week.

Cargo handling volumes have reached approximately 1.6 million tonnes, alongside the handling of 55,700 TEUs and 5,400 vehicles for re-export. During this period, around 25,000 passengers have also arrived. Majali further mentioned that the gas port received eight vessels carrying around 345,000 tonnes of natural gas and liquefied gas, with an additional 38,000 tonnes of fuel anticipated to arrive shortly.
