Amman: Representative of the food, supply, and livestock industries sector at the Jordan Chamber of Industry (JCI), Mohammad Jitan, emphasized the critical role of the food industry as a cornerstone of the national economy. Jitan highlighted how the sector meets citizens' needs throughout the year, with its importance amplified during the holy month of Ramadan when demand for food products surges.
According to Jordan News Agency, Jitan revealed that the sector's annual production volume is approximately JD4.5 billion, making it one of the largest industrial activities in the Kingdom, accounting for about 62% of the local market. The sector achieves self-sufficiency in various products, such as dairy products, fresh cheese, meat, poultry, table eggs, soft drinks, canned goods, and desserts. These products are manufactured following high quality and safety standards, ensuring the national industry's ability to meet local market needs during Ramadan and other occasions.
Jitan noted that demand increases during Ramadan for products produced by the national industry. Factories operate at full capacity to supply food items, particularly dates, dairy products, and cheeses, distributed daily according to precise schedules, guaranteeing continuous supply and quality. Production lines for Ramadan beverages double to meet demand, and factories produce specific desserts and pastries for the month. Additionally, the production of frozen pastries, samosas, and appetizers increases to offer practical and safe options for citizens.
Food factories maintain their commitment to meeting the growing demand for processed meats and ready-made products, adhering to strict health standards. Jitan emphasized that these efforts reflect the sector's capability to meet citizens' needs effectively, bolstering its role in national food security and economic support, especially during the heightened seasonal demand of Ramadan.
The Jordanian food industry represents a comprehensive journey from production in factories to reaching families' tables with confidence and quality. Jitan noted that the sector's products remain the preferred choice for citizens during Ramadan. As JCI Vice Chairman, he highlighted that exports from the food industry sector have reached 111 markets worldwide, with the largest share going to Arab markets, particularly the Gulf countries.
