Dead sea: The Lower House Energy and Mineral Resources Committee participated in the "Justice Dialogues" workshop, which took place over two days at the Dead Sea. The event was organized by the Friedrich Ebert Foundation and was held under the patronage of Minister of Environment Ayman Suleiman.
According to Jordan News Agency, the workshop focused on fair transition pathways across various sectors, including energy, agriculture, industry, and tourism. Key discussions centered on the social and economic dimensions of the energy transition, assessing its effects on the cost of living, job creation, and local development initiatives.
Committee chair MP Ayman Abu Haneyyeh emphasized that the energy transition represents a significant economic and social issue related to sovereignty. He stressed the necessity of involving Jordanians in the decision-making process to achieve a successful transition. Abu Haneyyeh also highlighted the need to protect productive sectors, ensure a fair transition for the workforce, and connect renewable energy and hydrogen projects to tangible benefits for local communities.
Members of the committee further highlighted the urgency of developing a national legislative framework to facilitate a fair transition. They advocated for enhanced parliamentary oversight of energy costs and pricing mechanisms to achieve a balance between environmental sustainability and social justice, aiming to strengthen national economic security.
