Samra: The Senate's Energy and Mineral Resources Committee, led by Senator Farouk Heyari, visited the Samra Electric Power Co. (SEPCO) to assess its operations and strategic initiatives. This visit was part of the committee's ongoing efforts to monitor the electricity generation sector's performance and its ability to meet increasing demand, which reached a record 4,800 megawatts last summer.
According to Jordan News Agency, the visit aimed to provide the committee with a first-hand look at SEPCO's operations and future plans for maintaining both conventional and renewable power generation plants. These efforts align with the broader economic modernization vision and aim to enhance the reliability of the electricity grid.
SEPCO Vice Chairman Abdul-Fattah Daradkeh highlighted the company's significant contribution, accounting for about 31 percent of Jordan's total electricity generation. He noted the company's growth across various operations and its positive financial outcomes.
General Manager Sami Zwatten provided insights into SEPCO's strategic objectives and key achievements. He outlined projects designed to improve generation efficiency and ensure a continuous power supply, including the implementation of a fogging system. SEPCO's current production capacity stands at 2,224 megawatts, derived from a mix of conventional and renewable energy sources.
Zwatten also mentioned that SEPCO has been recognized with numerous awards for excellence and international quality certifications. He praised the dedication of the staff in sustaining production since the company's inception in 2004.
Members of the Senate committee acknowledged SEPCO's role in advancing the electricity generation sector, enhancing efficiency, and supporting an infrastructure capable of meeting growing energy demands sustainably.
