Irbid: The Head of the Greater Irbid Municipality Committee, Imad Al-Azzam, met with a delegation from the Dutch Waternet Company to explore opportunities for closer cooperation in water harvesting and climate resilience.
According to Jordan News Agency, the discussions focused on the municipality's climate-focused initiatives aimed at reducing the impacts of prolonged droughts and sudden floods. Al-Azzam emphasized efforts to expand green areas to support environmental balance, alongside community awareness programs that promote responsible water use as a cornerstone of sustainable development.
Al-Azzam also highlighted the need to modernize building regulations and policies to require the inclusion of rainwater collection wells in all new construction projects, describing this step as a long-term measure to adapt to climate change.
In response, Dutch Waternet Company CEO Frodo Oostveen praised Irbid's local experience and expressed the company's interest in deepening cooperation and exchanging expertise between Jordan and the Netherlands in environmental sustainability and integrated water management.
