Madaba: Head of Madaba Agriculture Directorate, Bassam Abu Ghanam, announced that the Ministry of Agriculture drilled 270 rainwater harvesting wells in this central governorate in 2025, at a cost of JD411,000. This initiative is part of the ministry's strategy to expand well drilling operations and construct irrigation canals to optimize the use of rainwater for home gardens, thereby enhancing food security.
According to Jordan News Agency, the ministry is continuing the project this year by allocating JD100,000 from the Governorate Council's budget to further expand the drilling activities for water harvesting wells, based on approved criteria. Additionally, the ministry has implemented projects focused on women's development, dairy and cheese processing plants, and greenhouses in Madaba, with a total investment of JD141,000. These projects benefited approximately 100 citizens from the governorate's central municipality and Dhiban districts.
Furthermore, the ministry carried out irrigation canal projects for farmers, valued at JD10,000. It also executed six afforestation projects last year in Madaba's areas of Siagha, Arish, al-Faisaliyah, Jabal Nebo, and Ma'in, covering 430 dunams. As part of this initiative, around 3,700 forest trees and 6,000 grazing plants were planted in the Ma'in Rangeland Reserve, with ongoing care and maintenance.
