TRC Transfers JD 95.6 Million to Treasury, Reports Gains in Internet Performance

Amman: The Telecommunications Regulatory Commission (TRC) transferred JD 95.646 million in revenues to the state treasury during the past year, according to its 2025 achievements report released Wednesday. The report detailed various operational and financial metrics achieved by the commission over the year.

According to Jordan News Agency, the report said the commission processed 25,026 customs declarations through its external offices, while the number of new and renewed type approvals reached 4,000. Import approvals across different categories totaled 2,300, with 135 exemptions granted for fifth-generation network infrastructure. Furthermore, the commission handled 6,472 complaints throughout the year, resolving 5,926 of them. The majority of these complaints were related to internet services, followed by issues with mobile, fixed-line, postal, and vehicle tracking services.

The report highlighted Jordan's global ranking in internet speeds, with the country placing 35th in fixed internet speeds with an average of 195 megabits per second and 80th in mobile internet speeds at an average of 46 megabits per second. The commission issued 6,494 new frequency licenses, renewed 16,556, amended 2,447, and canceled 3,312. The number of satellite internet service stations reached 520, contributing to a total of 57 telecommunications licenses, split between 37 class licenses and 20 individual licenses.

The commission conducted various inspection tours and surveys to address interference issues and ensure compliance. These efforts included 48 inspection tours, 145 surveys, and the seizure or decommissioning of non-compliant devices. The commission also addressed 48 cases of interference with FM broadcasting stations and carried out health-related inspections.

In the postal sector, the report noted that there were 194 licensed operators, including 180 local and 14 international. A total of 74 postal licenses were issued, along with one for the public postal operator, Jordan Post Company.

The fixed-line sector saw 478,595 voice subscriptions by the end of the third quarter of 2025, with a household penetration rate of 19.4 percent. The distribution of subscription types and technologies reflected a mix of voice over internet protocol, public switched telephone network, and integrated services digital network, with a total call volume of about 10 million minutes.

Mobile and fixed broadband sectors showed significant penetration, with mobile broadband reaching 8.48 million subscriptions and fixed broadband attaining 824,273 subscriptions by the third quarter of 2025. Mobile data usage was substantial, with total voice traffic at 7.2 billion minutes and text message volume at about 337 million.

The report also noted the rapid growth of fifth-generation subscriptions, which increased by 307 percent in the third quarter of 2024, reaching 286,527 by the end of the third quarter of 2025. This included 97,217 data-only and 189,310 combined voice and data subscriptions. Additionally, leased line subscriptions totaled about 25,529 by the end of the third quarter of 2025.
