Gaza: World Health Organization (WHO) Director-General Tedros Adhanom Ghebreyesus remarked on the extensive recovery process needed for children in the Gaza Strip due to the impacts of war.
According to Jordan News Agency, Tedros made a statement on the X platform on Thursday in recognition of World Children’s Day, addressing the critical condition of Gaza’s children following two years of conflict. He acknowledged that while the children are experiencing moments of calm due to a fragile ceasefire, the journey to recovery remains extensive.
Tedros emphasized that although the ceasefire allows children an opportunity to reconnect and begin the healing process, the psychological and physical scars from trauma, injuries, and grief will require a prolonged period for recovery. The WHO is actively involved in efforts to rebuild the health infrastructure and improve mental health services for the affected children in the region.
He further stressed the importance of upholding the ceasefire to pave the way for lasting peace, underscoring the WHO’s commitment to supporting the health and wellbeing of Gaza’s youngest population.
