UNICEF Reports 67 Child Fatalities in Gaza Post-Ceasefire

Geneva: The United Nations Children’s Fund (UNICEF) announced that at least 67 children have lost their lives in Gaza since a ceasefire was declared in the area on October 10. This equates to an average of two children per day.

According to Jordan News Agency, UNICEF spokesperson Ricardo Pires shared these distressing figures during a press briefing in Geneva. Pires reported that an infant girl was among the casualties, having died in Khan Younis due to an airstrike. Additionally, seven children were killed the previous day in both Gaza City and the southern region of the enclave.

Pires pointed out that only one party involved in the Gaza conflict has the capacity to execute airstrikes. He further explained that UNICEF teams on the ground in Gaza witness deeply unsettling scenes regularly. These include children forced to sleep in the open, others who have suffered amputations, and orphaned children seeking refuge in makeshift shelters that are often flooded. “They are stripped of their dignity,” Pires remarked.
