Amman: Transport Minister, Nidal Qatamin, and head of the Association of Workers in Land Transportation and Mechanics, Mahmoud Maaytah, engaged in discussions on Saturday to address the working conditions and improve the work environment for drivers, aiming to ensure the sector’s sustainability and secure a decent living for its workers.
According to Jordan News Agency, the Transport Minister was informed about the specific challenges that drivers face, particularly those driving category 6 (heavy buses). The meeting highlighted the professional and financial pressures affecting these drivers, emphasizing the need for “practical and collaborative” strategies to alleviate these issues.
The session, which also included the Director General of the Land Transport Regulatory Commission, Riyad Kharabsheh, saw Qatamin advocating for the integration of heavy bus drivers and yellow cab taxi drivers into the social security system. This move is seen as a crucial step towards enhancing social protection for these groups, thereby ensuring their welfare.
Qatamin reiterated his ministry’s commitment to collaborating with various stakeholders to tackle the challenges in the transport sector. The goal is to foster a supportive environment for drivers and transport workers, thereby advancing the sector’s contribution to both the citizens and the national economy.
