UN Delegation Visits Petra to Review Development Efforts

Petra: Commissioner for Archaeological Reserve and Tourism Affairs at the Petra Development and Tourism Region Authority, Yazan Mahadin, received a delegation from the Executive Board of the United Nations Development Program (UNDP), the United Nations Population Fund (UNFPA), and the United Nations Office for Project Services (UNOPS), as part of the board’s field visit to the Kingdom.

According to Jordan News Agency, during the visit, the delegation was briefed on the Authority’s efforts to preserve the cultural heritage of the archaeological site and enhance the tourism experience in alignment with the Sustainable Development Goals. Additionally, they reviewed development initiatives aimed at serving the local community and expanding job opportunities in the tourism sector.

Mahadin emphasized the importance of partnership with UN agencies in implementing development projects in the Petra region. He noted that this visit helps showcase national efforts to achieve balanced and sustainable development in the area.

The visit is part of the Executive Board’s program, which aims to assess on-site the impact of UN programs in supporting Jordan’s national development priorities and to strengthen cooperation with the government and its institutions.
