Amman: Jordan has maintained its Tier 2 international ranking in the US State Department’s 2025 Trafficking in Persons Report, which classifies countries into several tiers based on their efforts to combat human trafficking. Minister of Justice Bassam Talhouni announced this development, emphasizing the ongoing efforts and initiatives aimed at addressing human trafficking in the Kingdom.
According to Jordan News Agency, Talhouni noted that the report commended Jordan’s efforts through the National Committee to Prevent and Combat Trafficking in Persons, highlighting the progress made compared to the previous reporting period. This acknowledgment underscores the country’s commitment to tackling the issue.
Talhouni pointed out that one of the key achievements recognized in the report was the issuance of the National Strategy to Combat Trafficking in Persons for 2024-2027, which was launched in November 2024. This strategy aims to consolidate and strengthen measures to prevent trafficking and support victims.
Furthermore, Talhouni mentioned the support provided by the Ministry of Justice and partner institutions to the Victims of Human Trafficking Assistance Fund. This fund helps cover the costs for the voluntary return of victims and expands the care and support services available to them.
On the content of the report, Talhouni added that it includes several observations and recommendations designed to enhance Jordan’s efforts in combating trafficking and improving its ranking in future assessments.
