Chinese Envoy Reaffirms Support for Jordan’s Stability, Regional Role

Amman: China has reiterated its support for Jordan’s efforts to safeguard national security and stability and reaffirmed its respect for the Hashemite Custodianship of holy sites in Jerusalem, underscoring Amman’s role as a key actor in regional stability. Chinese Embassy Charg© d’Affaires in Amman, Gong Anmin, highlighted the importance of the strategic partnership between China and Jordan, marking its 10th anniversary this year, with the relationship expanding across political, economic, and cultural fields.

According to Jordan News Agency, Gong noted that the two countries maintain close coordination on regional issues, including Palestine and Syria. He appreciated Jordan’s adherence to the “One China” principle and emphasized China’s humanitarian assistance through Jordan to Palestinians, planned medical aid for refugees, and financial support for UNRWA. China is also supporting projects in Jordan aimed at assisting Syrian refugees.

Economic ties between China and Jordan have grown steadily, with bilateral trade reaching $5.37 billion in 2024 and $3.23 billion in the first half of 2025, marking a 26% increase compared to the previous year. Beijing plans to support Jordan’s “Smart Education” project and JunCao grass cultivation, while over 600 Jordanians are expected to participate in training programs in China across various sectors.

Gong described Jordan and China as natural partners under the Belt and Road Initiative, encouraging Chinese companies to invest in Jordan and participate in major infrastructure projects. Cultural and educational cooperation was also highlighted, with Chinese participation in Jordanian festivals, a twinning agreement between Petra and Jiayuguan, new scholarship programs, and the launch of the first Chinese-language master’s program at Philadelphia University.

On regional affairs, Gong reaffirmed China’s commitment to the two-state solution as the only realistic settlement to the Palestinian conflict, advocating for an independent Palestinian state on the 1967 borders with East Jerusalem as its capital. He rejected any Israeli attempts to reoccupy Gaza or undermine the two-state framework.

Looking forward, Gong expressed confidence that China and Jordan share common ground in promoting a more just global governance system under initiatives proposed by President Xi Jinping. He emphasized the potential for both countries to advance political modernization, economic development, and international cooperation.
