Jordan Condemns Actions of Jewish Settlers at Al-Aqsa Mosque

Amman: The Ministry of Foreign and Expatriate Affairs has issued a strong condemnation against the ongoing incursions by Jewish settlers and right-wing Israelis at Al-Aqsa Mosque/Al-Haram Al-Sharif, located in occupied Jerusalem. These groups have been reported to carry out prayers and other provocations, including the blowing of the shofar, under the protection of Israeli police forces.

According to Jordan News Agency, the Ministry described these actions as a clear violation of the legal and historical status quo at Al-Aqsa Mosque/Haram Al-Sharif, labeling them as a desecration of its sanctity and an unacceptable act of provocation. The Ministry’s official spokesperson, Sufian Qudah, highlighted the potential repercussions of these ongoing breaches, emphasizing that their systematic continuation by extremists with the approval and facilitation of Israeli occupation authorities poses a threat to regional stability and security.

Qudah further stressed that Israel does not have sovereignty over the Al-Aqsa Mosque/Haram Al-Sharif. He reiterated Jordan’s firm rejection and condemnation of the repeated incursions into the compound by extremist settlers and some Israeli officials. Qudah called these actions a blatant violation of international law and international humanitarian law, arguing that they represent an attempt to impose facts on the ground by force within the Islamic and Christian holy sites in occupied Jerusalem.

The spokesperson also noted that the entire Al-Aqsa Mosque compound, spanning 144 dunams, is exclusively a place of worship for Muslims. He reaffirmed that the Jerusalem Waqf and Al-Aqsa Mosque Affairs Department of the Jordanian Ministry of Awqaf and Islamic Affairs is the sole legal entity responsible for administering the affairs of the compound and regulating access to it.
