Foreign Minister and UN Official Discuss Gaza Cooperation

Amman: Minister of Foreign and Expatriates Affairs Ayman Safadi met with UN Under-Secretary-General for Safety and Security Gilles Michaud to discuss regional developments and ways to strengthen cooperation. The meeting focused on the humanitarian situation in Gaza and efforts to enhance coordination with UN humanitarian agencies to ensure the delivery of aid to the Strip.

According to Jordan News Agency, Safadi warned of the unprecedented humanitarian catastrophe unfolding in Gaza due to the ongoing Israeli war and the use of starvation as a weapon, which he described as violations of international law. He reaffirmed Jordan’s firm support for the United Nations Relief and Works Agency for Palestine Refugees (UNRWA), emphasizing its role in providing essential services to Palestinian refugees in its five areas of operation, in accordance with its UN mandate.

Safadi also underscored the urgent need to end the Israeli war on Gaza and called for support of Qatari, Egyptian, and American efforts to broker a prisoner exchange agreement that would pave the way for a permanent ceasefire.
