Labour Minister Highlights Need for Market-Oriented Youth Skills in Ma’an

Amman: Labour Minister Khaled Bakkar emphasized the vital role of empowering Jordanian youth by aligning their skills with market demands through vocational training. This initiative, he outlined during a visit to Ma’an Governorate and Al-Ash’ari Municipality, aims to leverage the unique attributes and competitive strengths of each region.

According to Jordan News Agency, Bakkar highlighted the labour market’s urgent need for skilled and trained Jordanian workers, a gap the Vocational Training Corporation is striving to fill. He discussed the ministry’s plans to establish small-scale vocational training institutes that would cater to local communities and explore potential sites for production units or branches. Furthermore, Bakkar noted that the ministry is examining ways to support graduates who aspire to launch their own businesses post-training.

The minister detailed efforts to create stronger connections between job seekers and employment opportunities by tailoring vocational training to meet market needs. He also mentioned the availability of financial support for young entrepreneurs through the Development and Employment Fund.

Bakkar’s meeting with local MPs and municipal committee heads, including the ministry’s secretary general, Abdel Halim Doujan, and Vocational Training Corporation director general, Ahmad Gharaybeh, focused on employment and training challenges faced by the youth in the region. MPs like Hussein Krishan, Mohammad Al-Maraa’eh, and others stressed the necessity of providing genuine job opportunities through training and the establishment of development projects near residential areas to ease young people’s entry into the workforce.
