Jordan Welcomes Canada’s and Malta’s Planned Recognition of Palestinian State

Amman: The Ministry of Foreign Affairs and Expatriates has welcomed the announcement by Canadian Prime Minister Mark Carney and Maltese Prime Minister Robert Abela regarding their countries’ intention to officially recognize the State of Palestine during the UN General Assembly next September.

According to Jordan News Agency, the ministry described the plans of Canada and Malta as a step towards ending the Israeli occupation and supporting the two-state solution. In a statement, the Ministry’s Spokesperson, Dr. Sufian Qudah, expressed the Kingdom’s appreciation for the Canadian and Maltese leaders’ announcement.

Qudah noted that the move aligns with international efforts to secure further recognition of the Palestinian state based on the June 4, 1976, lines, with East Jerusalem as its capital. This initiative is consistent with the two-state solution and adheres to international legitimacy resolutions and the Arab Peace Initiative.

He reaffirmed Jordan’s commitment to working with international partners to advocate for the Palestinian people’s right to freedom, end the occupation, and achieve self-determination through the establishment of an independent state on its national soil.
