Baghdad: Iraq on Monday received six ancient clay tablets that had been smuggled abroad and recovered from Trkiye as part of the government’s ongoing efforts to reclaim stolen antiquities and preserve the country’s cultural heritage.
According to Jordan News Agency, the Iraqi Ministry of Foreign Affairs stated that the six artifacts were returned by Turkish authorities in line with Iraq’s sustained initiatives to safeguard its cultural legacy and retrieve looted heritage items.
The ministry noted that the recovered tablets would be transferred to the Iraq Museum in Baghdad, where they will be added to the national collection showcasing the depth and richness of Mesopotamian civilization.
