Amman: MP Awni Zoubi on Sunday stressed that dialogue remains the cornerstone of achieving a two-state solution based on international legitimacy, capable of securing lasting and just peace and stability in the Middle East.
According to Jordan News Agency, Zoubi emphasized the need to reaffirm unwavering support for the two-state solution, particularly amid rising global conflicts and declining opportunities for dialogue. He called for respect for international law and the right of peoples to self-determination during a meeting of the Standing Committee on Peace and International Security held as part of the 150th General Assembly of the Inter-Parliamentary Union.
He underscored Jordan’s historic and religious role in safeguarding holy sites in Jerusalem under the Hashemite custodianship of His Majesty King Abdullah II, describing it as a key guarantor of preserving the Arab and Islamic identity of the city and maintaining its legal and historical status quo.
Zoubi also highlighted the King’s ongoing efforts to address the root causes of regional crises, promote political solutions to conflicts, counter extremist ideologies, and champion moderation and tolerance on the global stage.
He reaffirmed Jordan’s longstanding position in support of ending the Israeli occupation of Palestinian territories, halting the aggression on Gaza, rejecting all forms of forced displacement and settlement expansion, and urging serious international efforts to rebuild the Gaza Strip and protect civilians in accordance with international law.
Zoubi noted that the Lower House of Representatives aligns with the King’s vision through active parliamentary diplomacy, building partnerships with friendly legislatures, and supporting initiatives that enhance global peace, security, and justice.
He concluded by reaffirming that this position reflects Jordan’s consistent stance under the leadership of His Majesty King Abdullah II, whose wise diplomacy advocates for a just and comprehensive peace, defends Jerusalem and its holy sites, and cements Jordan’s role as a pillar of regional stability and a rational voice on the international stage.
