Amman: Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Foreign and Expatriate Affairs, Ayman Safadi, announced on Sunday that Syria’s security and stability were emphasized as collective concerns during a meeting with Syria’s neighboring countries held in Jordan.
According to Jordan News Agency, the meeting resulted in an agreement among the neighboring countries to bolster Syria’s security, oppose destabilizing efforts, and collaborate on combating drug trafficking from Syria. The countries also committed to assisting Syria in its reconstruction efforts. Safadi revealed that a follow-up meeting is scheduled to be held next month in Trkiye.
The meeting addressed challenges facing Syria, with a consensus to combat ISIS, advocate for lifting sanctions on Syria, and engage in economic and investment collaborations to facilitate Syria’s rebuilding process. Safadi emphasized the importance of the voluntary return of refugees to Syria under safe conditions as a resolution to the refugee issue.
Syrian Foreign Minister Asaad Shaibani expressed gratitude to Jordan for hosting the meetings and commended the outcomes, which included calls to lift sanctions on Syria. Shaibani noted the support for the Syrian government and the new administration’s focus on tolerance to prevent armed conflict and ensure stability.
Turkish Foreign Minister Hakan Fidan reiterated Trkiye’s stance against Israeli expansionist actions in Syrian territories and emphasized support for the new Syrian government. He highlighted the importance of discussions on Syria’s stability, including efforts to combat terrorism.
Iraqi Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Foreign Affairs Fuad Hussein stressed that Syria’s stability requires dialogue with various internal components. He discussed the threats posed by ISIS and the necessity of regional and international cooperation to combat the group, stating that Iraq’s stability is linked to Syria’s security.
The meeting concluded with an agreement to establish principles for combating ISIS, including preventing its growth and setting up a joint operations room for information exchange and coordination, with participation from Syrian leadership.
