Amman: Minister of Political and Parliamentary Affairs Abdul-Moneim Odat said human rights in Jordan are a “renaissance” project, led by His Majesty King Abdullah II, who gave this file a “deeper and more effective” dimension under Jordan’s democratic path.
According to Jordan News Agency, the remarks came during Odat’s inauguration of the national conference, themed: “Civil Society-Government Cooperation to Develop Human Rights System in Jordan,” aimed to enhance the youth role in improving the human rights situation in Jordan.
Odat noted His Majesty drew a roadmap for building the Jordanian democratic model through 7 Discussion Papers that addressed all aspects to guarantee Jordanians’ right to participate in decision-making at all levels. He emphasized that this process comes within the political modernization process that enhanced the citizens’ role in electing Parliament.
On its goals, he stated the meeting comes in “exceptional” circumstances in the region, amid Israel’s largest violation against Palestinians, which also breached all international laws, agreements and treaties related to human rights. Human rights organizations are “truly” tested to prove their value and influence in changing the course of events and halting this Israeli violation, he pointed out.
