EU Voices Support for Jordan’s Role in Preserving Status Quo in Occupied Jerusalem

Amman: The European Union and its member states reaffirmed their support for Jordan’s role in maintaining the status quo in occupied Jerusalem through the Jordanian Awqaf Department of Jerusalem. This came following a visit by EU heads of missions to the Al-Aqsa Mosque in Jerusalem, where they met with officials from the Ministry of Awqaf as part of regular meetings focused on the religious and cultural diversity of the Old City.

According to Jordan News Agency, the EU officials emphasized the significance of preserving the unique character of Jerusalem and respecting the sanctity of its holy places. They warned that any unilateral attempts to alter the status quo could destabilize the region.

The European officials discussed recent developments concerning the mosque, including violations of the status quo and the restrictions imposed on the access of worshipers to Al-Aqsa Mosque during the holy month of Ramadan.

The EU delegation also addressed with the heads of churches in Jerusalem the challenges facing Christian communities in the city.
