House Committee, Azerbaijani Envoy Discuss Strengthening Bilateral Ties and Gaza Situation

Amman: The Lower House Foreign Affairs Committee affirmed Jordan’s “firm and unwavering” opposition to Gazans’ displacement to Jordan. During a meeting Sunday with Azerbaijan Ambassador, Eldar Salimov, the committee’s head, MP Dina Bashir, said the “steadfast” Jordanian position towards the Palestinian cause is based on His Majesty King Abdullah II’s visions and keenness to fulfill the Kingdom’s national principles.

According to Jordan News Agency, MP Dina Bashir emphasized the justice of the Palestinian cause and voiced the importance of achieving a just and comprehensive peace by establishing a Palestinian state with Jerusalem as its capital. The MP also highlighted the strong Jordanian-Azerbaijani ties, which are founded on mutual respect and continuous cooperation in various fields under the leaderships of both nations.

Meanwhile, committee members reaffirmed the significance of the Hashemite custodianship in preserving Jerusalem’s Islamic and Christian holy sites. They also stressed the necessity of continuing financial support for the United Nations Relief and Works Agency for Palestine Refugees (UNRWA) to help alleviate the suffering of Palestinians.

On the bilateral level, lawmakers pointed to the importance of mutual agreements in strengthening relations, particularly in tourism, education, youth, and energy sectors. The Azerbaijani envoy praised the “deep-rooted” relations between the two countries and commended Jordan’s efforts, led by His Majesty King Abdullah II, in providing aid to Gaza and the West Bank through air and land bridges and field hospitals.
