Government Unveils Strategic Initiatives for Mafraq Development

Mafraq: Minister of Government Communication Mohammad Momani announced the government’s decisions during its session chaired by Prime Minister Jaafar Hassan on Tuesday in Mafraq.

According to Jordan News Agency, the Cabinet has earmarked JOD500,000 from the Ministry of Finance’s 2025 allocations to initiate the establishment of a public park in Mafraq, on lands allotted by Al al-Bayt University. The park is envisioned as a recreational space akin to Al Hussein Parks in Amman and King Abdullah II Parks in Irbid, serving the community with green areas and facilities for families and children.

The Council of Ministers also approved the mandating reasons for the draft amended bylaw for the Groundwater Monitoring Bylaw for 2025. The amendments focus on the regulation of unlicensed wells across the Kingdom, particularly in Mafraq, providing a structured framework for licensing wells used for agricultural purposes.

In the realm of energy and minerals, the Council granted Zarqa Desert Company the right to mine volcanic zeolite in the Ashqaf area of Mafraq, and Cementra Jordan Company the right to mine gypsum in Zarqa Governorate. These mining rights are contingent on future Cabinet decisions to ensure sustainable practices and fair state revenue.

Momani highlighted ongoing health service improvements in Mafraq, with plans for maintaining the Northern Badia Hospital and establishing new departments in Mafraq Governmental Hospital by 2025. Moreover, the government will supply 10 megawatts of solar energy to factories in the King Hussein Development Area to boost investment.

Reforms in the political system and public sector were also addressed, with approved amendments encouraging public sector workers to engage in political life. Additionally, the Cabinet decided to unify fees for Jordanian and Syrian trucks, reflecting a commitment to facilitating trade and transportation.

The government also approved the Pastures Strategy for 2025-2030, aimed at preserving pasture resources, enhancing vegetation cover, and supporting livestock breeders. In the public transport sector, the Cabinet agreed to exempt operators from financial fines and offer a reduction on dues for timely payments.

To stimulate economic activities, the Cabinet endorsed recommendations to resolve 772 tax-related cases, aligning with efforts to support investment and business operations. The continuation of monthly Cabinet sessions in various governorates reflects the government’s dedication to presenting development plans directly to local representatives.

Prime Minister Jaafar Hassan’s tour in Mafraq included inaugurating the new Mafraq Municipality building and announcing the establishment of a comprehensive government services centre. Momani invited journalists to explore Mafraq’s development zone, highlighting investment opportunities facilitated by the Ministry of Investment.

Momani also addressed the ongoing support for Syrian refugees, emphasizing Jordan’s humanitarian role and commitment to voluntary repatriation. The northern governorates, notably Mafraq, have been significantly impacted by the refugee influx, underscoring the Kingdom’s efforts to manage the crisis responsibly.
