Truck Tractor Clearance from Zarqa Free Zone Rises 11% in 2024

Zarqa: The number of truck tractors cleared from the Zarqa Free Zone reached 1,920 in 2024, reflecting an 11% increase from the 1,738 units processed in 2023, according to Sharafeddin Rifai, Vice President of the Jordanian Free Zones Investors Commission.

According to Jordan News Agency, Rifai noted that clearance activity in 2023 had seen a sharp rise compared to previous years, with only 143 truck tractors processed in 2022 and 408 in 2021.

He attributed the increase in 2023 to a Cabinet decision allowing the import of truck tractors up to eight years old at the time of clearance. The policy, he said, provided a boost to the freight sector and contributed to modernizing Jordan’s trucking fleet.

The decision followed a study by the commission, which recommended permitting the import of truck tractors up to seven years old to enhance operational efficiency and improve competitiveness in the regional market.

The freight sector is a key pillar of Jordan’s trade and logistics industry, with fleet modernization playing a vital role in reducing operational costs and improving service efficiency amid increasing regional competition.
